GUIDELINES FOR TIPPING WHILE ON SAFARI IN UGANDA

Guidelines for tipping. Tips for your safari vacation in Uganda.

Overview

These pointers will make it simple for you to express your appreciation to those that assist you during your safari vacation in Uganda. You will discover when you are organising your safari that "tip money" is not included in your total all-inclusive package. The purpose of this essay is to provide you with a basic understanding of tipping in Uganda and the surrounding areas where we provide travel services.

Tipping after service is not required or anticipated, in contrast to other locations. Tipping is at your discretion as a visitor because no one will remind you or even hint at it.

Tipping someone for excellent service is very appreciated, even if it's not customary. We encourage our visitors to tip the staff members who contribute significantly to making your trip unforgettable.

Since the employees who work for you are paid by their employers, tips give them extra cash, which can be quite beneficial. The majority of Ugandans have modest salaries; therefore, tips are greatly valued.

You can tip anyone who offers you a service or product because tipping is not traditional. include your driver-guide, game rangers, hotel/lodge employees, and those who offer you street food or trinkets.

Therefore, it is recommended that you purchase some local Ugandan currency in order to tip those who might find it difficult to convert their money to UGX.

Here are some basic recommendations to help you better consider this. Remember that there are no rules here, so give what you feel like and what you can afford.

Gorilla & Chimpanzee Guides:

If you have a tip, put it in the central tip box. The main guide will then distribute it to all of the trackers and game guards. The main guide will receive about USD 15 each guest.

Porters:

This is an optional extra. Typically, they are hired for about $20 USD per porter per day, with tips ranging from $5 to $20 USD each guest, depending on the workload. Occasionally, the tourists tip each other so that the porters can split the gratuity equally later.

Safari drivers and guides

charge $5 to $10 a day per person, with an average of four to six people per vehicle. Please tip as you see fit if you are travelling alone (solo), that is, just the two of you. This tip is typically given by visitors at the conclusion of the trip, when there is nothing more to do but be dropped off at the airport or the guest's lodging.

National Parks Guides (rangers):

For each guide, USD 3 to 5 per guest in local currency; porters at hotels: Around USD 1-2 in local currency, or approximately 5,000 Ugandan shillings; many smaller lodges have central tip boxes; at hotels and larger establishments, it is typically given at your discretion to individuals who have performed well.

Waiters and bartenders:

10% of the total cost, or between 2,000 and 20,000 Ugandan Shillings, as a gratuity

Again, tipping is not strictly expected in Uganda, so you should follow your instincts when deciding whether or not to leave a tip. For this reason, we've provided you with these tips so you can have a sense of what to expect. Feel free to ask our driver for guidance on everything, including tips, as they will be your guide during your trip.

As you organise your safari in Uganda or any of the locations where we operate, we hope this provides you with a clear picture. Please contact us with any queries you may have about tipping or anything else related to visiting Uganda; our staff will be happy to help.

The performances of culture

Tipping is customary if you see dance performances or other cultural events while on safari. The majority of the time, it is performed by villagers who receive tips rather than compensation. Your level of admiration for the performance will determine how much tip you leave.

Site guides

During your safari in Uganda, you may encounter site guides, depending on the itinerary outline. This could include, for instance, birdwatching site guides, nature walks, village walks, or safari walks. Tipping might range from 5,000 to 10,000 Uganda Shilling if you would like to leave a tip in these situations.
