You will be met and warmly welcomed by our Safari/Driver guide on your arrival at Kigali International Airport. Greet and transfer to your earlier-booked lodge in Kigali. For those arriving earlier an excursion to Kigali city (optional) can be arranged. This includes a visit to a genocide memorial and a visit to the local general goods market and the craft center. Overnight at your earlier-booked lodge.

After breakfast, depart for Butare the second largest city of Rwanda after Kigali and is regarded as the intellectual city of Rwanda. It hosts the National Museum, several academic (University) and research institutions. On your way to Butare you will visit Nyanza (currently Nyabisindu) the former Mwami's palace (King's palace) and the seat of the feudal monarchy. The palace has been reconstructed to its 19th century state and shows a traditional dome that can be compared with the Kabaka's palace of Buganda. You will visit the National Museum there, which, is one the well set-up if not the finest ethnographic museum of East Africa. It's a good source of information on the cultural history of Rwanda and the region. Overnight and dinner at your lodge.

After a delicious morning breakfast, go to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee tracking experience. This is one of the highlight tour activities for your 12 days best of Rwanda and Uganda safari. It is an opportunity for you to interact with some of the primate species of Africa - chimpanzees. You will be grouped and then assigned a professional ranger-guide to take you through the activity. Upon encountering with the chimpanzees, you will be given a full hour to spend in their presence. Watch them closely as they dine, mate and foliage. Ensure to follow the tourism rules and regulations strictly.
Return to your lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon reading a book or at the swimming pool at your lodge.

Take a morning guided nature walk in the forest to see a variety of wildlife and some of the three hundred bird species found here. After your afternoon lunch break visit the hot springs in Rugarama.
