Kalinzu Forest Reserve is one of Uganda’s hidden cham, best-kept secrets located in Bushenyi District offering visitors an immersive experience in the heart of nature. Kalinzu forest reserve is located near Queen Elizabeth National Park in the South western part of Uganda. History of Kalinzu forest

Kalinzu Forest reserve was established in 1932 by the British colonial masters with the target of protecting the biodiversity within. Numerous tree species were lost when the portion of the forest was cleared to make a way for Kyamuhunga and Igara Tea plantations. The Government took over the remaining portion in order preserve it and enforce to stop deforestation in the area. Currently, the National Forestry Authority in charge of overseeing the Kalinzu Forest Reserve.

The forest is famous for 141 species of trees, harbours 378 species of birds, six different species of primates such as blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and chimpanzees. 262 butterflies, 97 Moths, Reptiles, flowers and Kilyantana waterfalls.
