A DAY IN THE WILD
The feeling that comes over you once you enter Lake Mburo National Park is indescribable. Being used to the honking of the cars, over night churches, the loud hang out places just near you or even the neighbor who never keeps it down back in the city… you will come to appreciate some quiet in the wild. Often a time we would be amazed by how quiet it was, hearing all the different kinds of birds chirping at a distance almost like our senses of hearing have been heightened. If you need some time to recollect your thoughts, rediscover your self and most likely indulge your deeper imagination, this is the place to be.
We took a game drive in the afternoon after lunch spotting quite a good number of wild life. It is amusing how every time we stopped to appreciate how beautiful and unique looking the animals were, they usually took a few seconds to look up back at us and almost instantly went back on to do their feeding on the savannah.
We saw a whole lot of them. Welcomed by the black and white stripped Zebras walking about like they own the land. I noticed they tend to move in a group, never at one time did we see one up and about on its own. I think we saw them a lot more than the other animals, almost every 5 minutes. We saw Bush bucks, with a dark brownish color that apparently seem to be loners. They prefer to be a lone, well for security purposes unlike most of us, the Impala, the warthog – not the best looking chaps in the kingdom but very adorable to look at. can’t lie that I got any clear shot of them, Buffalos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons, water bucks, and the worth looking at giraffes with that majestic aura that surrounds them.
The boat ride, oh what can say? Hippos floating around near the shore. We could only make out their heads and occasionally capture their significant yawning. We managed to catch just a glimpse of three baby crocodiles that rushed into the water whenever we came close, as well as the lower part of the big crocodile sitting still in the nearby bushes. If you are a birdie, make it a point to visit this place. Quite a home for a lot of aquatic birds that linger around the shores of lake Mburo and prey on the fish.
In general, I loved the place, Lake mburo national park offered us the best services and view of some of the game animals while we had meals and stayed at Mihingo lodge. Everyone there was nice and welcoming, we hardly felt like we were meeting people for the first time. All with Beyond Travel Africa.
